Blood pressure readings and readings are correct at the meter

Electronic blood pressure monitors are increasingly widely used for their superiority, compactness and high accuracy. People with high blood pressure must regularly monitor their blood pressure to quickly detect disease suppression in time. However, most patients do not know how to measure their blood pressure at home, so it is time-consuming and expensive to visit clinics or hospitals for regular check-ups.

Blood pressure readings and readings are correct at the meter

Classification of blood pressure indicators

Blood pressure has two numbers:
  1. Maximum blood pressure or systolic (corresponding to the number on the sphygmomanometer)
  2. Minimum or diastolic blood pressure (corresponding to the lower number on the sphygmomanometer)

How much blood pressure is normal

Thus, the normal blood pressure index is between 90 / 60mmHg to 140 / 90mmHg, many people admit that the upper limit of normal blood pressure in young people is 145/95.
The blood pressure reading is low when the maximum blood pressure is <90 or the minimum blood pressure is <60.

The blood pressure reading is high when the maximum blood pressure is> 140 or the minimum blood pressure is> 90.

How to read blood pressure parameters in electronic blood pressure monitors

Measure your wrist: Sitting position is like measuring blood pressure in the biceps, hands crossing diagonally across the chest. Read the results: systolic blood pressure (119), diastolic blood pressure (64) and heart rate (78).
Measure your biceps: Sit up straight with your feet parallel to the floor. The cuff is located above the elbow, parallel to the heart. A stethoscope is placed on the arm artery. Read the results: systolic blood pressure (127), diastolic blood pressure (82) and heart rate (89).

Notes when measuring blood pressure at home

  1. Posture: The patient must choose a comfortable sitting position. Before measuring, sit comfortably and remain in the chair for 5-10 minutes to completely relax and relax your body.
  2. No eating, no drinking, no talking during blood pressure measurement because of erroneous results.
  3. Blood pressure measurement sites: With an electronic monitor, blood pressure can be measured in the upper arm or wrist as long as the cuff is at the level of the heart. If measured in the biceps, the arm can be placed on the back of the table with the edge of the cuff around 2cm from the elbow. If measured at the wrist, the arm should be bent at an angle of about 45 degrees so that the wrist is level with the heart.
  4. Blood pressure should be measured twice a day, in the morning before taking the drug and in the afternoon after meals about 1 hour. Record all results with the date and time recorded in the book for the physician to evaluate during a follow-up visit. Some devices already have memory to store measurement results at the same time.
  5. In cases where the results of measurements are many times too high, too low or do not coincide with previous diagnoses: you need to see a specialist immediately to have appropriate treatment.
  6. Do not forget that the results are very misleading if the meter is about to run out of battery. If you are careful, replace the battery and measure your blood pressure.
